The concept for the first women’s led mosque in the Middle East centers on the dynamic qualities of daylight through a rich layering of ambient and accent apertures. Nearly 6,000 conical skylight perforations diffuse daylight into the main prayer hall. The Qibla Wall pulls away from the roof plane and funnels daylight inside, directing worshipers to Makkah. As daylight fades, dynamic white luminaires integrated into these apertures carry the same ambiance into night.
In Islam, light is uplifting – a metaphor for spiritual guidance and righteousness. Our project elevates women in Muslim society – its opening a moment for celebration.
