A site-specific installation created with NYC’s Washington Heights community, Los Círculos is inspired by communal celebration in the public square, a cultural tradition deeply embedded in the neighborhood’s Latin American diaspora. Soft illumination from undulating circles transforms two public spaces, creating an inviting space for interaction while increasing nighttime visibility. The piece harnesses the neighborhood’s kinetic energy, embodying a sense of movement. The nimble structure ensures uninterrupted access to these spaces for existing site programming. We hope Los Círculos fosters interaction and promotes a sense of belonging, adding light and joy to the neighborhood — perhaps inspiring people to dance!
